Hatari Lodge

The Hatari Lodge is one of the few places to stay within the Arusha National Park. A beautiful and fertile plain sits in the shadows of Kilimanjaro, on which the Trappe family originally erected a farm in 1907. The Trappe family, successful farmers, conservationists, and hunters, leased their farm to Hollywood in the 1960s so that they could film the iconic John Wayne movie/picture “Hatari,” from which the hotel got its name to thrill while on Tanzania Safaris Tours .

Hatari Lodge is billed as a “luxury bush hotel” and is located in Arusha National Park, one of Tanzania’s smallest but most beautiful national parks. The Hatari Lodge, which is ornamented with influences from its 1960s heyday, and “The Old Buildings,” which are steeped in history and created in the style of old-school Europe’s major lodges, are the three structures in this lodge. There’s a restaurant, a lounge, and a roaring fire here. The flower-scented breakfast deck overlooks a spectacularly beautiful landscape. The major activity at Hatari is expert safaris, which let guests get off the beaten path and experience nature firsthand.

The lodge has unobstructed views of vast grasslands and rain forests, as well as a breathtaking backdrop of Mount Meru. Marlies and Jorg Gabriel have transformed the lodge from its original farm buildings into a “luxury bush hotel.” The accommodation at Hatari consists of eight comfortably furnished cottage rooms, each with an open fireplace and a large en suite bathroom.

With the gleaming glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro and the treacherous peaks of dormant volcano Mount Meru keeping watch, Hatari is a one-of-a-kind lodge where Hollywood history, funky retro design, and a warm welcome await. Hatari is located on the northern edge of Tanzania’s Arusha National Park, in a region known as the “little Serengeti.” Ngurdoto Crater is smaller than its larger neighbor, Ngorongoro, but it is almost as famous. The Momella Lakes, which are only a short walk from Hatari Door, are home to water fowl and languid hippos, and there are limitless plains for magnificent game viewing.

Hatari Lodge Rooms

Hatari’s nine rooms were created and custom-made in Tanzania to promote various co-operatives and charity programs, with many of their components inspired by “Op Art” styles from the 1950s and 1960s. This luxurious safari lodge has nine luxurious rooms, each with a king-size bed, an open fireplace, lofty thatched roofs, and a huge luxury bathroom en-suite.

Hatari Lodge, a premium bush hotel, is made up of three buildings set in acacia woods with stunning views of the Momella meadow, which is rich in animals and is close to the majestic Kilimanjaro. The Hatari Lodge has nine well-appointed rooms, each with an open fireplace and a large bathroom.

The oldest structure serves as a large central gathering area. The dining area and the long bar, as well as a tiny yet instructive library, are all located here. From the breakfast patio, you may see Mount Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Momella clearing, directly beneath the terrace, has a game-watching platform that is also ideal for an evening sundowner.

Every day, buffaloes and waterbuck feed near the lodge, warthogs dig in the ground or mow the lawn, water birds enjoy the swampy areas, and a large number of giraffes visit the resort. Elephants may enter the meadows depending on the season, and on moonlit nights, leopards, genets, and civets may be seen with a little luck. Bush babies can be found in the trees surrounding the lodge. Within walking distance is a “Hippo Pool,” a small lake permanently inhabited by hippos.

Deluxe Room

The designers commissioned craftsmen in Dar es Salaam to create the unique pottery, wash basins, and wooden furnishings seen in the nine bedrooms, which were inspired by the milieu of the 1960s smash-hit film Hatari, The “modern retro” bed linen – in quirky greens, whites, and classic Sixties’ “burnt orange” – was designed by local women, while the carpets were made by a women’s cooperative and the sisal mats by a local church group.

Hatari lodge facilities

Hatari Lodge is made up of three meticulously renovated farmstead buildings that are situated among a grove of fragrant acacia trees. The breakfast terrace frequently welcomes a passing procession of visiting warthogs and curious giraffes, while the largest houses the cozy lounge and dining area. Meals are served at a communal table, which is ideal for trading stories about the day’s game drive or hiking highlights.

The long bar, which connects the garden and the interior, is an excellent site for a post-dinner nightcap, while the wooden jetty leads to a local watering hole, which is great for wildlife watching during the day and shooting stars at night. Pick a book from the well-stocked library and warm up in front of the open fireplace in the sitting room before retiring to the African night’s peace. Laundry services are also available at this lodge.

Hatari Lodge does not have particular conference facilities, but will be pleased to quote for small meetings and social gatherings. In addition, a variety of Tanzania incentives can be organized in or near the area. Hatari Lodge is also an excellent choice for a Tanzania wedding.
