Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike – Marangu Route : Mount Kilimanjaro day hike Via Marangu route: A great tour for beginners to explore this majestic mountain giant. The first camp, Mandara Hut (2720 m), and return through the same route are reached during the Kilimanjaro Marangu day hike. From Moshi town, it is a 45-kilometer drive that will take an hour. To obtain a valid permit to begin the hike, you must register and pay the park admission fee at the Marangu gate. Marangu Gate is located 1879 meters above sea level, and it takes 3 to 4 hours to travel in each direction from there to Mandara Hut, which is 8 kilometers away.
Raining Forest
You will pass through the rain forest, which is a thick, pure-green forest with many different plant species, on your way from the Marangu gate to the Mandara lodge. Blue monkeys and a black-and-white Colobus monkey may be seen if you’re lucky.
Maundi Crater
From Mandara to Maundi Crater, a 15-minute walk is all that is required. This location provides an excellent view of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, as well as the Kenyan side of Lake Chala and Lake Jipe. As a result, the magma produced a crater during the eruption rather than rising to the surface.
Note: While guides are necessary for day trips, porters are not. According to park regulations, each guide may only have two clients at a time. Water and lunch will be provided by the company.
MOUNT KILIMANJARO DAY HIKE ITINERARY
ü Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft)
ü Elevation Gain: 915 meters, 3,000 feet
You will be picked up in the morning from your Moshi/Arusha hotel and driven to the Marangu Gate (1860m), which is the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park. It will take around an hour to drive from Moshi and around 3 hrs from Arusha. After completing the required gate registration, your hike may start, and you will soon be walking into the thick Kilimanjaro rainforest.
You will get the opportunity to see blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and other bird species in addition to the spectacular foliage. You will learn about Kilimanjaro from our knowledgeable English-speaking guide, who will also describe the various plant and animal species you will observe. Additionally, you’ll see mountaineers coming down from the summit. Maybe some of them will share their stories with you, inspiring you to consider making your own ascent!
You will arrive at Mandara Hut (2700m) after a 3- to 4-hour climb, where you may take a well-deserved break and have lunch. After that, your guide will lead you on a quick walk (15 minutes) to the Maundi Crater, from which you can get stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Northern Tanzania, and Kenya. After fully savoring the vistas, you will return to the Marangu Gate (a 2- to 3-hour walk away), where your car will be waiting to take you back to your hotel. You can take in the sunset and the day’s memories as you go back.

Since this is a private excursion, the party will only include the companions you selected. The following discounts are available to kids: 1 child under 5 years old will receive 100% (additional children under 5 years old will receive 50%), and 5–12 years old will receive 50%. The number of travelers does not include kids who receive a 100% discount. Two kids are allowed on each private excursion at the indicated children’s discounts.
