A DETAILED ITINERARY: 6 DAYS MAHALE AND GOMBE SAFARI
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Kigoma
You will be picked up early in the morning from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and brought to the airport where you will board your domestic flight to the Kigoma district, which is home to Mahale and Gombe National Park. Upon arrival at the airport, your guide will meet you and drive you to the camp; afternoon beach relaxation
The chimpanzee families that reside safely within the confines of Gombe Stream Park are without a doubt the site’s biggest draw. Visitors take trips deep into the forest to view and spend the full morning with the remarkable primates. In addition to chimpanzees, the tropical forests of Gombe Stream are home to numerous other primates. The deep forest is home to a variety of tropical birds as well as dik-dik, baboons, colobus, and vervet monkeys, as well as forest pigs.
Day 2: full day Gombe
Gombe became well-known for the conservation effort initiated by Jane Goodall, who first arrived in Gombe in 1960. We will start our Gombe chimpanzee trekking safari at 8:30 a.m. Just after breakfast from our accommodation. In addition to chimpanzees, Gombe Stream’s tropical forests are home to numerous other primate species, including baboons, vervet, and Colobus monkeys. If you have time, climb Jane’s summit and stop by the Kakombe waterfalls.
Day 3: transfer to Mahale
After breakfast, travel by boat for two hours to Kibirizi port, then drive to Lukoma Village and board a boat for 45 minutes to reach Mahale National Park. The park, like its northern neighbor Gombe, is home to some of Africa’s last remaining wild chimpanzees, with a population of about 900. A Japanese research study started in the 1960s has accustomed them to human visitors. Mahale’s chimp tracking is a fantastic adventure. Mahale is a village in western Tanzania, south of the town of Kigoma. It borders Lake Tanganyika, the longest, second-deepest, and least polluted freshwater lake in the world, which is home to an estimated 1,000 different fish species.
Day 4: Full day Mahale National Park
In Mahale, you will go chimpanzee-tracking for several days. Normally moving in quest of food, chimpanzees build their nests wherever there is a plentiful food supply, such as their preferred fruit. You can also enjoy snorkeling if you want to cool off in the water and see what’s below the surface.
Day 5: Kigoma town tour
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken back to Lukoma Village by boat. From there, you will take a car to Kigoma Town, where you will check into the Kigoma Lodge. In the late afternoon, you will be taken to Ujiji Town to visit the Dr. Livingstone Memorial Center before returning to the hotel for dinner and the night.
Day 6: Departure
Our guide will drive you to the airport after breakfast so you can catch your flight back to Dar es Salaam. When you arrive in Dar es Salaam, a member of our representative team will transfer you to a hotel where you can stay the night and have dinner or to the airport to connect a flight back home.
