3 Days Mt. Meru Hiking

3 Days Mt. Meru Hiking, Arusha National Park : Tanzania is home to Mount Meru, the fifth-highest summit in Africa. With its breathtaking landscape and views of Mount Kilimanjaro, it is a fantastic mountain to climb. Compared to Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, the peak is less crowded and less polluted.

One of the top attractions in Arusha National Park is Mount Meru. At least three days are needed for the entire ascent. The hike passes through several different natural settings with a wide range of flora and animals and an intriguing blending of nature and society.

There is just one route up Meru, which may be attempted in three days; however, four days are highly advised for acclimatization. Before climbing Kilimanjaro, the majority of alpine climbers use Meru to acclimatize. Less snow has accumulated on the mountain since the volcano’s eruption.

When climbing Mount Meru, unlike Kilimanjaro, you must be escorted by an armed ranger or rangers as you move through the Arusha National Park. You will enjoy the walking safari at this point as you pass herds of African buffalo, zebras, and black and white colobus monkeys, to name a few wildlife species.

Day 1: Arusha (1400 m)–Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

  • Duration: 5-7 hours of hiking

On the 1st Day of your 3 Days Mt. Meru Hiking, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park after an early breakfast in Arusha (1400m). While you and your guide register with Tanzania National Park (TANAPA), the porters will organize and pack your hiking gear. The ascent will then start in Arusha National Park. Walking safari-style animals, including giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and maybe elephants, can be spotted along the trail on the first day of hiking. An armed ranger hired through the National Park is essential to hike with our crew for the entirety of the hike due to the high likelihood of spotting wildlife. You will reach the Ngarenanyuki River and a stunning waterfall at the foot of Mount Meru as you continue hiking. A hot dinner and washing water will be ready for you when you get to Miriakamba Hut (2500m). Enjoy the lovely sunset and stay the night.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut (2500 m)–Saddle Hut (3500m)

  • Duration: 3-5 hours of hiking

You’ll start climbing the arduous trail along the saddle’s ridge after breakfast. Along the way, you might spot numerous creatures! The Ash Tray and Mount Meru Crater may be seen from the route. You have the choice to hike Little Mt. Meru (3820 m) with your guide after you get to camp to help you adjust to the altitude. We’ll feed you dinner early so you have plenty of time to recuperate before your midnight summit attempt.

3 Days Mt. Meru Hiking
Saddle Hut

Day 3: Saddle Hut (3500m), Summit Attempt (4566m), Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

The summit attempt will then start at 1:30 a.m. Between Rhino Point (3800 meters) and Cobra Point (4350 meters), the trail begins with a strong incline. You will scramble across a steep ridge between Meru’s inner cliffs and crater during the last hour of the walk. At sunrise, you’ll arrive at Meru’s peak (4565 meters), where you’ll have breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru Ash Tray. Take in the vistas, then make your way down to Saddle Hut for a quick rest. Before continuing the descent to the Momella gate, we stop for a brief rest and brunch at the Saddle Hut.
